Voluntary Replacement Program

I haveĀ  Residential Fire Sprinklers in my home built in 1996 and wonder if my version of the Central Sprinkler Heads are part of the recall. How would I identity these sprinklers?

I was on an emergency fire sprinkler leak repair today and came across the Central GBR 4.3k Residential Sprinkler installed in a complete tract of homes. As a local San Clemente Fire Sprinkler Company (San Clemente pioneered Residential Fire Sprinklers in the 1980′s), I immediately realized that these were the Central Sprinkler Heads without the “Belleville Seal,” meaning that the part where the fusible link met the waterway of this GBR sprinkler was flat.

I have attached two links below that will be a great help in identifying these recalled residential fire sprinkler heads. Unfortunately, the Voluntary Replacement Program ended in 2007.

I have identified that the GBR 4.3k SSP head that I saw in the field is indeed the same one that can be seen on page 9, bulletin 35 & 36, and verified on the table on page 7.

As a Fire Sprinkler Contractor in Southern California, I sometimes run into housing tracts that still have not been changed out, and not only that, the homeowners have no idea that their sprinkler heads were part of the Central Fire Sprinkler Recall. Such was the case with this homeowner and her next door neighbor. I wonder if the home owners association was even notified.
